Join us!

Kara-Karhut is a wilderness scout troop that has been operating since 1969. We have long traditions and you can often spot us hiking in the forests of Nuuksio and other scout events across Finland. We organize a lot of activities for our members and you get to choose your favorites!
In Scouts it’s essential to learn by doing, work together and be in nature. Scouting is a many-sided hobby which aims to support personal growth to a responsible citizen in relation to oneself, nature and the society around us.
The best things about Scouts are unquestionably the nature and the lifelong friends you make on the way!
We welcome school-aged children, young people, and adults to join our activities year-round. In our troop, you can start Scouting when entering the first grade of school—at around 6 or 7 years of age—and there is no upper age limit. Come join the adventure of a lifetime!
If you are interested in Scouting, please feel free to get in touch! You can watch a video showing what Scouting is like here. You can also find plenty of information about Scouting on the The Helsinki Metropolitan Area Guides and Scouts website. You can get a feel for our activities by checking out our troop’s social media channels.
You can join by filling out the attached registration form. After you have filled out the form, we will contact you via email. Please note that all scouting activities are voluntary, and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
If the suitable groups are full, you will be placed on a waiting list, and we will notify you when a spot opens up. You can submit a membership application at any time, but as a general rule, we take new cubs (youngest-age-group members) in twice a year: in early autumn and in January.
If you have any questions about the registration form, please feel free to contact our membership registrar, Lahja Pietilä (lahja.pietila(at)karka.fi)!
If paying the membership fee is difficult due to financial or other reasons, you can apply for an exemption. Please do not hesitate to apply for an exemption if needed. You can find information about the membership fee and exemptions here.
